Thomas is a maternity lifestyle maven and doula, or a woman employed to provide guidance and support to the mother of a new born baby. After having her first and only son in 2003, she decided to help change the way black women give birth and founded Mama Glow, an agency that provides services to help expecting mothers and families.

She even wrote a book for all mamas titled, “Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to a Fabulous and Abundant Pregnancy”, but its Own Your Glow that I’m dying to tell you about, so back to the subject.

Own Your Glow is literally a guide to radical self-care. It’s like the bible, but better. Every bit of knowledge is carefully crafted and pieced together to help you to become the woman you’ve always dreamed of becoming: the one you’re meant to be. It’s a true testament to the celebration of self-hood and here’s why.

The Glow Guide Breakdown

Thomas breaks the book into three parts which she calls portals. Reading this book is like undergoing a journey, so pace yourself.

Through portal 1: Evoke, we work to understand if the lives we currently chose correlate to the initial dreams we had for ourselves by connecting to our intuition. Special activities are set in place to teach you how to make the connections if you’re unsure how to on your own.

As she teaches you how to connect to your dreams, she then teaches you how to ground yourself in a spiritual practice that supports your wholeness and dreams.  This is where we move onto portal 2, Ignite, where we continue laying the groundwork by connecting to our feminine forces to the natural elements around us, thus aligning ourselves with our natural rhythms while syncing us to the universe.

As you continue progressing to the last third part of the book, magic beings to take over as you enter portal 3, Embody, where we literally take all the work that we done and step full-faith into our potentials, unapologetically taking full flight into our glow.

A year later and I’m still soaring!

Nothing Goes Uncovered

Thomas covers so much information that you’ll be overwhelmed at first, but with time and patience, you’ll be able to compartmentalize it all to your benefit.

Aside from inspirational phrases and advice on conquering fears, learning to forgive, and even undoing what she calls, “the good-girl conditioning”, she also provides tips on heathy eating, the importance of exercise, and caring for your sexual/ reproductive health.

Now you can understand why I consider this better than the bible. In fact, I regard as my bible. It has the kind of personal touch to me that I’ve never received from any book I’ve ever read. In it is every bit of advice on how I can better my health from the inside out in order to be at my best each and every single day.

Through this book I’ve encountered so much growth and truth. If that’s not personal empowerment in a nutshell for you, I don’t know what is.

The Wrap Up

Thomas teaches you how to honor and own your feminine essence within by walking you through restorative practices and activities that helps to unveil the masks we wear and the layers we hide behind while urging you to step into your truth and ground yourself in your authentic nature in order to exist and thrive to the fullest in the here and now.

I started this book last summer and it completely changed the way I lived. It helped to bring my attention to the parts of myself I wasn’t properly caring for and alerted me to other parts that I’ve never tended to… until now.

It acted as the stepping stone for how I now define my spirituality, has brought on lots of personal empowerment, and centers me again whenever I fall off track.

It’s truly a gift and it has so many gems it’d be a shame not to read it.

Although a bit pricey, it’s 110% worth the investment. A little goes a long way with this book, and after reading it you won’t ever be the same.
